In the City of Las Vegas, installing, altering or repairing gas piping between the meter and any appliance needs a permit. (source: City of Las Vegas Building and Safety)
- If you smell natural gas, Clark County says to shut off the gas at the meter, open doors and windows, and not strike matches or flip light switches.
- Then either have a licensed plumbing company do an air test of your gas system, or call Southwest Gas to turn the gas off. Southwest Gas will not repair your gas piping.
- If the plumber repairs the gas system, they must pull a permit and pass inspection before gas service is restored.
- An old PVC gas line cannot be repaired or extended with new PVC or CPVC, because no fittings are approved for it under ASTM D2513.
